The Portfolio Insights Report is the rollup view of WISEscore performance across your entire claimed catalog. While the Product Insights Report tells you how one product is doing, the Portfolio Insights Report shows the full distribution — your brand average, your best and worst performers, and where the biggest opportunities to lift the portfolio sit.
What the report shows
For your full claimed portfolio, the Portfolio Insights Report displays:
- Portfolio WISEscore (average) — the mean 0–100 WISEscore across all claimed products
- Score distribution — how many products score in each band (80+, 60–79, 40–59, below 40)
- Per-pillar averages — average Nutrient Quality, Ingredient Quality, and Health Outcomes pillar scores across the portfolio
- Per-metric distributions — for each of the 15 underlying metrics, how the portfolio is distributed and which products are pulling each metric up or down
- Best- and worst-performing products — top performers (marketing leaders) and lowest performers (reformulation candidates) ranked
- Movement over time — how the portfolio average and pillar scores have shifted as you reformulate, claim more, or update data
How to read the report
- Start with the portfolio WISEscore. What's your portfolio average? How is it distributed?
- Look at the pillar averages. Which of the three pillars is strongest? Which is weakest?
- Open the per-metric view inside the weakest pillar. Find the 1–2 metrics dragging the pillar down most
- Look at the worst-performing products on those metrics. Those are your highest-leverage reformulation candidates
- Look at the best-performing products on those same metrics. Those are your templates — products that already crack the metric, often through small ingredient or recipe choices you can replicate
The two most actionable views
1. Distribution by score band
This view shows you the shape of your portfolio:
- A portfolio averaging 75 with most products in the 70–80 band is a consistent, mid-strong portfolio — limited high-leverage wins, but also limited downside
- A portfolio averaging 75 with products spread from 40 to 95 is a bimodal portfolio — a handful of strong performers and a handful of weak ones. Big opportunity to lift the weak ones
Both portfolios have the same average. The distribution tells you whether the strategic move is consistent improvement or concentrated cleanup.
2. Per-metric distribution within a weak pillar
Once you've identified the weakest pillar, the per-metric view pinpoints exactly which metric to attack first. Reformulating to improve one metric across many products usually has higher leverage than fixing many metrics on a few products.
What to do with the report
Strategic planning:
- Set portfolio-level targets (e.g., "portfolio average above 75" or "no products below 50") and use the report to track quarterly
- Identify the 3–5 worst-performing products and put them in active reformulation
- Identify the 3–5 best-performing products and put them in active marketing
Retailer and investor conversations:
- The portfolio average and distribution are strong talking points for retailer category reviews
- The "share of portfolio scoring above 80" stat is investor- and board-ready
Reformulation prioritization:
- For each weak metric, the report shows the products that fail it most and the products that already pass it best
- That gives R&D both the problem (which products) and the proof point (which formulations already work)
What changes after reformulation
When you reformulate and update via the data ingestion chat:
- The Product Insights Report for that product updates immediately
- The Portfolio Insights Report rollup recalculates — portfolio average, distribution, and per-metric all reflect the new data
- The "movement over time" view shows the lift quarter-over-quarter
This is how you prove that reformulation work is actually moving the needle.
Common questions
Why is my portfolio average lower than I'd expect given my best products? A few low-scoring outliers can pull the average down more than expected. Check the distribution view — if you have 3–4 products scoring below 40, those are dragging the average. Fixing or sunsetting those products is often the highest-leverage move.
Does the report include discovered products? Portfolio rollups include claimed products only. Discovered products show up to 5 directional Product Insights Reports but don't roll into the portfolio average.
Can I see the report filtered by product category? Yes. The category filter shows the WISEscore distribution within a specific category — useful for brands with portfolios spanning multiple aisles where category benchmarks differ.
How is the portfolio average weighted? Today the average is unweighted (each product counts equally). Volume- or revenue-weighted views are on the roadmap.
Can I export this report? Yes. Every Studio report exports as a branded PDF. See Exporting and Sharing Studio Reports.
