Your first task in WISEcode Intelligence is to claim the products WISEcode has discovered for your brand. This article explains what claiming means, why it matters, and how to do it.
The three portfolio states
Every product in your portfolio sits in one of three states:
- Discovered — WISEcode has identified the product as belonging to your brand based on its public database (retailer feeds, packaging scans, UPC catalogs), but you haven’t taken ownership yet
- In Progress — you’ve taken ownership, but the product’s data isn’t fully verified yet. Ingredient verification is pending, or an ingredient is waiting on Science Team review
- Claimed — you own the product and its data is fully verified. It earns the Brand Claimed badge in the consumer app and appears in reports
A note on the word “claim”
“Claim” does double duty in Portfolio, and it’s worth separating the two uses:
- Claiming (the action) — the step where you tell WISEcode “this product is mine.” This moves a product from Discovered to In Progress
- Claimed (the state) — the end state where ownership and data verification are both complete
So claiming a product doesn’t immediately make it Claimed. Claiming starts the process; verifying the ingredients finishes it. This article covers the action; see “Verifying Your Ingredients” for the rest of the path.
Why claiming matters: the report depth difference
| Discovered | Claimed | |
|---|---|---|
| Visible in your portfolio | ✓ | ✓ |
| Portfolio-level rollup reports | ✓ | ✓ |
| Product-level reports | Up to 5 | Unlimited |
| Eligible for Non-UPF Verified Shield | — | ✓ |
| Marketing assets unlocked | — | ✓ |
| Editable data | — | ✓ |
In short: claim more, see more. The deeper a brand claims, the more product-level intelligence unlocks.
How to claim a product
- Open Portfolio. The portfolio overview shows discovered products grouped by your brand
- Select the product you want to claim — either from the grid or by searching by name or UPC
- Confirm ownership. WISEcode will prompt you to confirm this product belongs to your brand
- Review the data we have. Ingredient list, Nutrition Facts, and imagery. You’ll have a chance to correct anything that’s wrong in the data ingestion chat (see “Using the Data Ingestion Chat”)
- Save your claim. The product moves from Discovered to In Progress, and ingredient verification begins
You can claim products one at a time or in batch from the portfolio grid.
After you claim
Once you’ve claimed a product:
- The product moves to In Progress and enters ingredient verification
- The product becomes editable through the data ingestion chat
- Once all ingredients are verified and the product data is complete, it reaches Claimed — earning the Brand Claimed badge and appearing in reports
- All product-level Portfolio reports unlock — Product UPF Report and Portfolio UPF Report. If you have Studio access, GRAS, WISEscore, Health Outcomes, and Nutrient Quality reports unlock too
- If the product qualifies on the Non-UPF standard, it appears in your Pre-Qualified list for Non-UPF Shield Verification
Common questions
Can I claim a product that isn’t in the discovered list? Yes. Add it manually — see “Adding Products to Your Portfolio.” Once added, ownership is automatic and the product goes straight into ingredient verification.
I claimed a product but it isn’t showing in reports. Why? Claiming moves a product to In Progress, not straight to Claimed. Reports unlock once the product reaches Claimed — which requires all ingredients verified and product data complete. Check the Verify Ingredients tab to see what’s outstanding.
What if my portfolio is empty (0 of 0 products)? That happens for smaller brands, new launches, or brands not yet in the public feeds WISEcode uses for discovery. You’ll add your products from scratch — see “Adding Products to Your Portfolio” for the flow.
What if WISEcode has assigned the wrong product to my brand? You can dispute the assignment. Message WISEcode Help and we’ll re-route the product to the correct brand.
Can I un-claim a product? Yes — though it’s rare. If you sold a product to another brand or it’s no longer in your catalog, you can remove it from your portfolio.
Does claiming change anything for consumers in the WISEcode app? Claiming makes your product data more accurate and unlocks the ability to upload imagery and earn the Non-UPF Verified Shield — both of which improve how your products appear in the consumer app.
How many products should I claim? As many as possible. Reports get sharper, marketing assets unlock per product, and the value of any Studio access scales with the share of your portfolio that’s claimed.
