The data ingestion chat is the conversational interface inside Portfolio that lets you add, correct, and confirm your product data — without filling out forms. This article explains when to use it and how to get the best results.
What the chat does
Three core jobs:
- Add new products — submit a product that isn’t in WISEcode’s discovered list
- Correct existing data — fix ingredient lists, Nutrition Facts, or product details
- Confirm Nutrition Facts accuracy — review what we have and approve or update it
The chat is designed to read your inputs flexibly. Paste an ingredient list, upload a spec sheet, type a question, or attach a label image — the underlying AI parses it into structured data you can then review and confirm.
When to use it
Use the chat whenever you:
- Just claimed a product and want to verify the ingredients on file are right
- Have a new product launching that WISEcode hasn’t discovered yet
- Reformulated a product and need to update the ingredient list
- Notice a Nutrition Facts panel that looks off (wrong serving size, missing nutrient, etc.)
- Want to attach a brand-approved photo or product mark to a record
How to use it
- Open the data ingestion chat from inside any claimed product, or from the portfolio overview
-
Tell the chat what you need. Some examples:
- “Update the ingredients on this product to: [new ingredient list]”
- “Add a new product to our portfolio: [paste UPC, name, ingredients, NFP]”
- “The serving size on this product should be 30g, not 28g”
- “Attach this image as the front-of-pack for this product”
- Review what the chat extracted. The chat will summarize what it understood and ask you to confirm before saving
- Confirm or correct. If anything looks off, tell the chat. It will re-read and try again
- Save. Once you confirm, the changes flow to your portfolio and downstream reports refresh
Tips for accurate results
- Paste ingredient lists exactly as they appear on the label. Don’t reformat — the chat handles standard label punctuation (commas, parentheses, asterisks)
- Upload spec sheets as PDFs or images. The chat OCRs them
- One product per message is easiest. For bulk uploads, use the batch upload tool linked from the chat header
- Use exact UPCs when referring to a product. Names alone can be ambiguous if you have multiple flavors or sizes
- Double-check NFP numbers. Decimal placement matters — “0.5g sodium” vs “5g sodium” produces very different reports
What if the AI gets it wrong?
The chat asks for confirmation before saving anything. If the extracted data doesn’t match what you sent:
- Tell the chat what’s wrong (“the calorie count should be 110, not 100”)
- The chat will re-parse and show you the corrected version
- If you still can’t get it right, message WISEcode Help and we’ll fix the record manually
What changes after you submit
When you confirm an update, the following refreshes automatically:
- Product Details Report — a clean, organized summary of all the product information that has been provided and saved, in an easy-to-read format
- Product UPF Report
- Ingredient Quality Report (if ingredients changed)
- Product Insights Report and any Studio reports
- The product’s appearance in the WISEcode consumer app (within 24 hours)
Common questions
Can I bulk-upload via spreadsheet? Yes. Use the batch upload tool (linked from the chat header) for more than 10 products at a time.
Do I need to re-validate after every reformulation? Yes. Reformulations change your UPF and Ingredient Quality results, so updating the data triggers fresh reports. If the product holds a Non-UPF Verified Shield, see the Reformulation Roadmap for re-verification.
Is the data I submit private? Your portfolio data is private to your account. Aggregate, anonymized data (e.g., portfolio-level UPF distributions) may feed into industry-level benchmarks. Customer-level data is never shared without consent.
Can the chat correct typos in ingredient names? Yes — the chat will match against WISEcode’s ingredient dictionary and suggest the canonical name. You confirm the match before it’s saved.
My product has the same formulation in multiple package sizes, each with its own UPC. Do I need to add all of them? Yes — every UPC must be added individually, even when the formulation is identical across sizes. Each UPC is a distinct product record in WISEcode and in the consumer app. If a UPC isn’t added, that size won’t be captured accurately in the consumer experience or count toward your portfolio.
What about variety packs? Variety packs — a single UPC containing multiple different flavors or products in one box — aren’t supported yet. Support is planned for a future release. For now, add the individual flavors as their own products and reach out to your account team for guidance on how to represent the variety pack itself.
Do I have to attach a product image? No. Images aren’t required to reach Claimed status, qualify for Non-UPF Shield Verification, or appear in reports. But the image is how your product is represented in the WISEcode consumer app, so it’s worth adding when you have one.
