Once a product is Published, the next step is to earn the Non-UPF Verified Shield — the market-facing mark that shows a product meets the WISEcode Non-UPF standard. This article walks the path from a published product to a Shield-bearing one, and what comes with it. The verification path, attestation, certificate and Shield badge work the same way they did before; what is new is where you start it from.
What the Shield is
The Non-UPF Verified Shield signals to consumers, retailers and partners that a product has been independently verified against the WISEcode Non-UPF standard. When a product earns it, you get digital Shield assets (high-res PNG, SVG, dark-mode variant), a signed certificate PDF, on-pack usage rights according to the Usage Guidelines, and social templates.
The verification lens: “Does it have the NON-UPF shield?”
In Portfolio, the third question is a progress bar across your Published products with five states:
| State | What it means |
|---|---|
| Ready to verify | Qualifies. Start whenever you like. |
| In verification | Attestation or payment in flight (for example, “4 to attest, 2 to pay”). |
| NON-UPF Verified | Shield earned. Download your badge. |
| Not eligible | Scores ultra-processed today. |
| Not ready yet | Edits are waiting to publish, or a review still has to finish. |
WISEcode does the qualification work for you. Every published product is evaluated against the Non-UPF standard automatically; the ones that meet it appear as Ready to verify. Only published products are evaluated, so publish first.
Three ways to start
- From Portfolio — open the Start verification Fix Group or filter the verification lens to Ready to verify, select the products (selecting all is recommended) and start.
- From chat — ask: “Verify NON-UPF on my ready products” or “Start verification for these five UPCs.” Chat routes you to the verification page with those products selected.
- From the WISEcode AI home — the Verify your NON-UPF products pathway card takes you to the verification page if you have products to verify, and otherwise reads “Open my UPF report” and opens your Portfolio UPF Report dashboard.
The verification flow
- Select the products to verify.
- Attest that the ingredient statement on file matches what is currently on the label for each product.
- Pay in-app. Pricing is shown before checkout and scales with the number of products.
Verification completes in-flow at payment. Your Shield assets, certificate PDFs and usage kit are available immediately under the Marketing Assets button at the top of Portfolio, and the product moves to NON-UPF Verified.
If a product shows Not eligible
It scores ultra-processed today. Ask chat to audit it — “Why isn’t UPC … eligible for NON-UPF?” — or open the Product Insights dashboard (“Audit a product”) to see which ingredients or sugar load drive the score and what would move it. Reformulate, update the ingredient list through chat, publish the edits, and the product is re-evaluated automatically. See Reformulation Roadmap: Moving Toward Non-UPF Status.
Using the assets
Every Shield-bearing product gets high-resolution PNG and SVG Shield files, a dark-mode variant, Instagram and LinkedIn templates, a one-page “Why Non-UPF Matters” PDF, and the signed certificate. Placement rules are in The Non-UPF Verified Shield: Usage Guidelines for Packaging and Retail.
Reformulating a verified product
Verification is tied to a specific formulation. If you change ingredients on a verified product, the new formulation must be verified again before the Shield applies to it. Expiration and renewal tracking inside Portfolio is not part of the Beta; see What’s not yet available in the WISEcode AI Beta.
Common questions
Can I verify an unpublished product? No. The verification lens covers Published products only. Publish first.
Does the Shield cover all my products automatically? No. Each product is verified individually. Some flavors may qualify while others do not.
Can a product be rejected from verification? No. Only Ready to verify products can enter the flow, so there is no submission-and-rejection step. A product that does not meet the standard shows as Not eligible until you reformulate.
Can I display the Shield without an active verification? No. The Non-UPF Verified Shield is a registered mark and requires an active verification.
Products I verified in WISEcode Intelligence? They migrated as Published and NON-UPF Verified. Nothing to redo.
