Whenever a product enters your Portfolio — found by WISEcode, added through chat, or uploaded in a CSV — each ingredient on its label is matched against WISEcode’s canonical ingredient catalog. Confident matches are handled automatically. Uncertain ones need a quick decision from you. In WISEcode AI that decision happens inline in chat or in bulk from a Fix Group; there is no longer a separate verification step or screen.
Why it matters
Until every ingredient on a product is settled, the product sits in Needs work with the Ingredient check blocker and cannot be published. Once it is settled (and nothing else is missing), the product moves to Ready to publish.
Verifying inline while you add or edit
As you give chat an ingredient list, it verifies each ingredient in the same conversation. When a match is ambiguous — a non-standard name, an unusual spelling, a vendor-specific variant — chat shows a short list of candidate ingredients and you pick the one that matches your label. Confirm, and the conversation moves on.
Verifying in bulk from Fix Groups
- In Portfolio, open the Confirm ingredient matches Fix Group (or filter the Publishing lens by the Ingredient check chip).
- Work through the ingredients that need a decision. Each shows the label text, the proposed match, and alternatives.
- Settle an ingredient once and the decision propagates to every product in your portfolio that uses it. Fifty products that share one ambiguous ingredient are resolved in one dialog.
You can also ask chat directly: “Verify ingredients on all of my products that need work.”
When an ingredient is new to WISEcode
If no match exists, chat proposes a new canonical entry for the ingredient. Accept it and the entry is created for your product. Ingredients that need expert review go to the WISEcode Science Team; the product row shows “With WISEcode, about a day” while that is in progress, and it counts on the WISEcode side of “Is anything waiting on you?” rather than yours.
Composite ingredients
An ingredient that is really several ingredients under one name — “bread crumbs,” “pickle brine,” “vegan fish sauce” — cannot be matched as a single entry. Chat will ask you to list its components, either in parentheses after the composite name or dispersed into the main list. See Ingredient Kickbacks — What They Mean and How to Fix Them.
Common questions
Can I skip verification? No. A product with unsettled ingredients stays in Needs work and cannot be published. It still counts in your own analysis once it has a name and ingredients.
How long does it take? A product whose ingredients all match confidently needs nothing from you. A product with several ambiguous ingredients takes a minute or two in chat or the Fix Group.
I disagree with a match WISEcode made. Tell chat: “The ingredient ‘natural flavor’ on UPC … should match …” It re-matches and asks you to confirm.
Did products I migrated from WISEcode Intelligence keep their verified ingredients? Yes. Previously verified products migrated as Published and do not need re-checking.
